My affiliation as a public handicapper began in 2004 though my involvement began years prior

After my departure from a prominent investment firm in 1995, where I serevd as a Vice President of sales,  my focus was becoming successful at what I loved to do;sports betting. I discovered that gambling is no different than most other potentially lucrative ventures. The road to success is challenging, oft times difficult, and littered with mistakes. Any successful bettor, regardless of their area of expertise, will attest to that fact that their trade is defined by that of a learning process that is 'constant and never ending'.

After several years of successful sports wagering, and becoming known by various Vegas and offshore bookmakers, I decided to launch my career as a 'professional handicapper', whereby my selections were offered to the public. In my inaugural year, during which my picks were offered on VegasInsider.com, I compiled an NFL against the spread record of 57-42-2, which included an impressive over/under log of 34-19. The latter figure represented the top percentage amongst the stable of cappers (65%), several of whom had been in the handicapping business for upwards of 2 decades. While it was considered impressive by some, I considered it average at best.

As a professional, my wagers have been restricted by more than one Vegas book, while I have had my account closed by several offshore sports books for doing little more than winning.

The most common question that I face has to do with the reasoning behind sharing information. After all, if I am such a successful sports bettor, one might ask, why would I want to 'share the wealth'? Fair question. and one which always crossed my mind before I joined the industry . The answer is revolves around recognition. There are those that simply want to be acknowledged as being amongst the elite in whatever their chosen field. For this football handicapper, money is secondary to winning.

That attitude is certainly not the industry norm. The need for greed tends to be the dominant theme in an industry proliferated by charlatans.  The conflict between money and their responsibility to the paying customer ends predictably. For that reason, many football handicappers post their picks early in the week without regard to weather, injury, or other critical factors that may affect the outcome. That should be your red flag. In some cases, paying customers will end up with a bet on a game that in reality is not deserving of their hard earned dollars. A handful of cappers are honest, do the work, and produce the results. On the flip side, you would be shocked to know that how many handicappers spend their Sunday afternoons during the fall entertaining themselves with non footabll related activities.

A large part of my success is driven by my commitment to watching as many games simultaneously as my brain will allow. Not only does it help me in my handicapping for future weeks, but it opens up second half betting opportunities. My full season customers will receive those top related selections as part of their package. For more information on the merits of second half wagering, see my archived article entitled ' Second Half Wagering'. '.

Watching games, while critical, is but one component to being a successful football handicapper . Gathering information through a variety of different sources is also paramount to my success as a bettor. One should recognize that each handicapper has a unique system for determining their selections. Some handiacppers make their gambling selections strictly on the basis of historical tendencies, or trends. In some cases, those handicappers are operating from the standpoint that history will repeat itself while they may have limited knowledge of the sport itself. A handful of handicappers are even known to make their sports selections based solely on going against public sentiment, which they feel offers them a better than average chance at producing winning sports picks. You may want to check out my archived article entitled 'Trends'.

I have and will go on record as saying that I will be on every football pick or basketball selection that I give out, or it won't make it onto these pages. Handicappers should be sought out with your individual needs in mind. If you crave action on every televised event, then go out and find a capper to satisfy your thirst for action. If you are all about finding the best wagering opportunities and making money with a successful sports bettor, look for a football betting wiz that is selective, or in the case of the NBA, one that follows the hardwood night in and night out.
